Hauliers, Farmers and Fishermen fight for Fair Play on Fuel

The Road Haulage Association has added its voice to that of Scottish farmers and fishermen to press for urgent Government action on fuel.

At a meeting in Edinburgh 0n 12 June, the Road Haulage Association, Scottish Fishermen's Federation and the National Farmers Union for Scotland underlined their joint commitment for measures to alleviate the strain on their respective industries resulting from the impact of the soaring cost of fuel.

Phil Flanders, RHA Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland said: "This joint approach is very encouraging. We are all committed to the sustainable production, harvesting and local delivery of foodstuffs.

"Although each of our industries is different and requires different types of support, we have agreed to adopt a joint approach that we will be developing over the coming days in pressing the Scottish and UK Governments to take immediate action to halt these crippling fuel price rises. Without it our three sectors face a grim future indeed".
