RHA Welcomes Chamber Support on Fuel Duty

The Road Haulage Association welcomes the recent submission by the British Chambers of Commerce to the Chancellor of the Exchequer that April's proposed 2 pence per litre fuel duty increase should be abandoned.

“We often feel that we are a lone voice when it comes to fuel duty,” said RHA Chief Executive Roger King, “but we are delighted that the British Chambers of Commerce have joined us in bringing pressure on Government to think again about adding even further to the fuel tax burden.

Each 1 penny per litre increase adds another £600 per annum to the cost of operating an average HGV. With the UK economy under much pressure at the moment the RHA believes it makes no sense to add to its woes by deliberately adding to transport costs.

"With world oil prices at such a high, the Chancellor is already benefiting from unbudgeted VAT receipts and other oil revenues," continued Roger King. "These are more than enough to cover the 2 pence per litre increase".
