The eligibility for membership of the Group is the active engagement in the carriage of bulk liquids, powders, or gases for hire-or-reward, in road tankers or tank containers. The Group meets approximately three to four times a year usually at a central London location.

The Group maintains representation at meetings convened by a range of Government departments and industry bodies concerned with development in regulations, vehicle equipment specifications, vehicle design and construction and operational performance concerning the safe carriage of liquids, powders and gases in bulk quantities.

The Group is the main planning impetus behind the highly successful biennial TankCon event and recent group work has included the updating of the RHA Special Conditions for the Carriage of Bulk Liquids, Powders and Gases, the revision of the Tanker Emergency Support Directory, and the instigation of an internal incident report Scheme. The annual subscription of £60.00 + VAT maintains the Group's Special Purposes Fund which is used to support Group activities such as the purchase of training videos and the subsidy of safety training courses.
